For Clients

  1. Get TightVNC - remotely or locally
  2. Install it
  3. Click on Start, Programs, TightVNC, Launch TightVNC Server
  4. Phone your friendly Postmaster
  5. Right click on the VNC icon in your tray icon area, choose Add New Client, and enter gauntlet.os.org.za
  6. Hey presto, Postmaster controls your machine :-)

For Postmaster

  1. Get phone call from user
  2. Establish IP address
  3. Fire up ssh tunnel from workstation running TightVNC viewer in listen mode; tunnel must allow port 5500 to be tunneled to gauntlet.os.org.za port 5500. Hint, in putty, tunnels, local port 5500, remote port 5500, remote connection
  4. Allow tunnel to be accessed from anywhere (gatewayports option in sshd)
  5. Configure firewall ruleset to allow connections from user to gauntlet.os.org.za port 5500
  6. Connect to machine and configure
  7. Remove firewall rule and close tunnel
